Arnold Schwarzenegger approves Top Gun star Glen Powell to lead the Running Man remake, with Edgar Wright directing the sci-fi reboot
Arnold Schwarzenegger has given his stamp of approval to Glen Powell taking over his iconic role in the upcoming Running Man remake. The Top Gun: Maverick star will lead Edgar Wright’s reimagining of the 1987 dystopian classic.
Powell recently met with Schwarzenegger to discuss the role, receiving valuable advice about physical preparation and capturing the character’s charisma. The younger actor called the meeting “a key moment” that motivated him to honor the original while making the role his own.
The remake of Stephen King’s dystopian story (written as Richard Bachman) will hit theaters November 5, 2025. Edgar Wright brings his signature style to the project, with a cast including Colman Domingo and Patrick Schwarzenegger in undisclosed roles.
The original film followed a deadly game show where contestants were hunted for public entertainment. Wright’s version promises to update the social commentary while keeping the intense action that made the 80s version a cult favorite.
With Schwarzenegger’s blessing and an all-star creative team, the Running Man remake could become one of 2025’s most anticipated releases. Fans will get their first look when trailers drop later this year.
