Ana de Armas Open to Playing Evelyn Hugo in Netflix Film

Ana de Armas has addressed the growing fan demand for her to star as Evelyn Hugo in the upcoming Netflix adaptation of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. The popular novel, written by Taylor Jenkins Reid, has become a cultural phenomenon, especially among book lovers and film enthusiasts eager to see their favorite characters brought to life on screen.

The Golden Globe-nominated actress recently confirmed that she is aware of the widespread fan casting. When asked about the possibility of stepping into a character like Evelyn Hugo—far from her recent string of action roles—she welcomed the idea of exploring different types of performances. She emphasized her passion for variety in her career, stating that trying out diverse roles is one of the most rewarding aspects of acting.

Netflix announced back in 2022 that the novel would be adapted into a feature film. The screenplay will be penned by Liz Tigelaar, known for her work on Little Fires Everywhere. The adaptation will be produced by Liza Chasin and Brad Mendelsohn, with author Taylor Jenkins Reid serving as executive producer alongside Margaret Chernin.

The story follows the life of reclusive Hollywood icon Evelyn Hugo, who chooses a relatively unknown journalist, Monique Grant, to write her tell-all memoir. As Evelyn recounts her dramatic journey through fame, glamour, and seven marriages, she unveils secrets about her identity, relationships, and the reason behind selecting Monique for her final story.

While official casting has not been announced, fan speculation has been intense. Ana de Armas, Jessica Chastain, and Eiza González have emerged as top fan choices for the roles of Evelyn Hugo and Celia St. James. However, Jessica Chastain has officially stated she will not be taking part in the film, despite her appreciation for the fan enthusiasm.

Eiza González has also shown interest, describing the opportunity as an “honor” and expressing her admiration for Reid’s work. With multiple A-list actresses in the conversation and anticipation building, fans eagerly await Netflix’s official casting announcements.

Reid’s work continues to captivate audiences, with several of her books being adapted across various platforms. Malibu Rising is currently in development as a Hulu series, while Daisy Jones & The Six already premiered on Prime Video to critical acclaim.

As the buzz around The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo intensifies, Ana de Armas remains a strong contender for the role, keeping fans hopeful that their dream casting may yet become a reality.
