Shogun Sweeps Emmy Night as The Crown and The Bear Shine

The 2025 Emmy Awards proved to be a night of surprises and triumphs, with the acclaimed miniseries Shogun stealing the spotlight. The highly anticipated show led the pack with an impressive 25 nominations, including Best Drama Series, and walked away with multiple accolades.

Father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy took the stage to host the 76th annual Emmy Awards, an event that returned to its usual timeline after last year’s ceremony was delayed due to the Hollywood writers’ strike. The night was a celebration of some of television’s finest shows, with Shogun leading the way.

The night belonged to Shogun, a period drama based on James Clavell’s novel, which dominated the awards with multiple wins. This groundbreaking series was one of the most talked-about nominations of the night, and its success helped affirm the growing popularity of epic miniseries.

Other shows also garnered significant recognition, such as The Bear, which picked up 23 nominations, and Only Murders in the Building, with 21 nominations. True Detective: Night Country and The Crown were not far behind, with 19 and 18 nominations respectively.

The Netflix series Baby Reindeer also emerged as a surprise contender, sweeping the Emmy Awards with four wins. The limited series took home awards for Best Limited or Anthology Series, Outstanding Directing, Outstanding Supporting Actress (Jessica Gunning), and Outstanding Lead Actor (Richard Gadd), marking a major victory for the streaming platform.

One of the most anticipated moments of the night was the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, which went to Elizabeth Debicki for her portrayal of Princess Diana in The Crown. Although she was nominated last year, it was her first win for the role, making her acceptance speech an emotional and poignant moment.

“I didn’t write anything down because I’m very superstitious and now I’m in a real pickle,” Debicki joked as she took the stage to accept her award, a moment that garnered warm applause from the audience.

Debicki’s win, alongside the continued success of The Crown, highlighted the show’s consistent dominance at the Emmys, with notable performances and high praise for its portrayal of the British royal family. Debicki’s portrayal of Diana has resonated with both audiences and critics alike, cementing her place as one of television’s brightest stars.

While Shogun and The Crown stole much of the spotlight, other winners included The Bear for its outstanding ensemble performance and Only Murders in the Building for its stellar comedic timing and star-studded cast.

The 2025 Emmy Awards showcased a wide variety of shows and performances, celebrating the diversity and creativity of the television industry. With Shogun and The Crown taking center stage, this year’s Emmys was a memorable event that spotlighted some of the finest television of the past year.
