Toluca Ends 15-Year Drought, Beats América 2-0 to Claim Liga MX Clausura 2025 Title

The Diablos Rojos dethrone three-time champions América with second-half goals from Luan and Alexis Vega in thrilling final

Toluca made history Sunday night, defeating América 2-0 to win the Liga MX Clausura 2025 title. The victory ended their 15-year championship drought and prevented América from achieving a record fourth consecutive title.

Brazilian defender Luan broke the deadlock in the 65th minute with a powerful header from a corner kick. Alexis Vega sealed the win with an 82nd-minute penalty after a foul on Robert Morales. The Nemesio Diez Stadium erupted as Toluca lifted their 11th league trophy.

América dominated possession but failed to score. Their best chance came in the first half when Israel Reyes hit the post. Toluca’s defensive resilience and clinical finishing proved decisive in the second leg after a 0-0 draw in Mexico City.

Manager Antonio Mohamed won his fourth Liga MX title with his fourth different club. “This is for the Toluca family,” said Mohamed, who previously beat América in the 2019 final with Monterrey.

The loss ended América’s quest to match Chivas’ historic 1960s four-peat. Toluca now sits third all-time with 11 titles, behind Chivas (12) and América (16).
